I was born and raised in a small town, went to a small private college, and fell in LOVE with New York City. Imagine….
For me, NYC used to be Times Square, Rockefeller, and Macy’s, where one time a year you’d drive into the chaos that was the Midtown Winter season, “ooh” and “aah” at the lights, and dodge the masses. I have since fell in love with the diversity, energy, and magic the City has to offer.
I’m a sucker for the Upper West Side. The residential feel, combined with amazing restaurants and bars, shops and museums makes this my number one. It’s easily accessible by the 1, 2 or 3 subway lines, walking distance to Central Park, and Riverside park is only a stone’s throw away. I have come to feel at home here!
Here are some of my favorites:
Places to Stay
Jump off the 1 local train and walk half a block to this magnificent, “I can’t be in New York City” hotel! Single rooms as well as full two room suites are available, with all the necessary amenities. At 4 pm, make sure to be down in the lobby for happy hour and enjoy a glass of wine while relaxing in their salon-like lobby.
Places to Eat
Indian Tanpura
No NYC getaway would be complete without visiting this quaint, lovely restaurant and enjoying their authentic Indian cuisine. Located on Amsterdam, between 87 and 88 you’d do yourself a service by visiting while you’re there!
Take my word for it – you’ll fall in love!
My first time experiencing this middle eastern cuisine was during one of my first trips to the City. I’ve since tried store bought, homemade, and various restaurants’ versions. NOTHING compares to the Hummus Place!
Take an evening and make reservations at Barbetta. If the weather is right, sit out on the patio and take in the ambiance, the wine, and fine food. Italian, yes, but the closest to some amazing restaurants in Paris that I know of!
An amazing take of Chinese cuisine awaits you at RedFarm. Plates are big enough to share (my favorite are Crispy Beef, Pork Buns, and Vegetable Fried Rice)!
The Plaza Food Hall
I just recently found this hidden treasure – an open food court – NYC Plaza style! Enjoy crepes, caviar, croissants, avacado on toast, fruit smoothies, macaroons, coffee, wine and champagne.
